San Diego duo acquires The Agoura Antique Mart in Agoura Hills

Nathan Raposo and Spencer Howard are known across Southern California for their painted European antiques.

The pandemic was hard on antique importers. The steady flow of shipping containers filled with European treasures slowed to a trickle of showpieces that were already sold off into exclusive collections before even arriving in port.

With few options available for antique dealers and interior designers specializing in vintage European decor, Nathan Raposo and Spencer Howard satisfied their appetite for French, Italian, and Swedish furniture by scouring the United States for exceptional pieces to bring to market.

After relocating from Houston to San Diego in 2019, Nathan and Spencer quickly expanded up the coast opening up shops in Ocean Beach, La Jolla, Venice, and Agoura Hills.

“We’ve always loved shopping at The Agoura Antique Mart,” Spencer said, “We were ecstatic when the opportunity came to acquire the entire store. The shop has been a landmark for generations in the Whizin Market Square.”

The Agoura Antique Mart was operated for the last 30 years by Maria and David Bartolet who are retiring now. However, the shop traces its roots in the square back to the 1950s when it was a distant outpost between Los Angeles and Ventura.

Nathan and Spencer plan to continue the same tradition of offering antiques and home decor the Agoura Hills community has supported for so many years.

“Most of our customers have always been in the greater Los Angeles area,” Nathan said, “They want to see our pieces in person and not solely online. The Agoura Antique Mart is about the experience and seeing a well-curated space.”

Check out The Agoura Antique Mart any Sunday-Thursday, 11am-6pm, and Friday-Saturday, 10am-7pm, at 28879 Agoura Rd, Agoura Hills, CA 91301, or on Instagram at @TheAgouraAntiqueMart.
